Almost 5000 years old the Lyre of Ur commonly known as the Harp of Ur is truly the oldest wonder of the world of music.
Our goals and Commitments to the Project
  • We would like this project to be a tribute to Iraq and the Iraqi People, our aim to make the lyre for the Iraqi people and as a sign for freedom and a symbol of peace.
  • We are involving in our team, craftsmen and professionals, of any political or religious persuasion, who share the aims of the project. This is a non-political project.
  • We are researching the background and the making of the original instrument and trying to learn how the Sumerian artists might have approached problems.
  • We will record our work, research, list of supporters and the process of making the Golden Lyre into an exhibition which will accompany the Lyre in a tour throughout the world before it reaches its final destination in Iraq.
  • We aim to have two professional musicians, an Iraqi and a western musician to advise us and help to us professionally tune the Golden Lyre. The very first music played by the Lyre will be composed by these two musicians.
  • We are non profit organisation and we are committed to be totally transparent in our work. Members of the public from all over the world are invited to donate and be part of this worthy project, and every person who donates to this project will have the right to know and see where their donation went.
  • Finally we would like to stress that this project is a tribute to Iraq and the Iraqi People for what they have endured recently, we aim to make this project as a symbol and noble gesture of peace and harmony not only in Iraq but in the whole world. We also would like to stress that this Golden Lyre does not belong to anyone but the Iraqi People and we look forward to take it back to its rightful place in Iraq.
